trnd Travel // The New It Spots

In an age where mainstream is decreasing in popularity, lesser known travel spots are beginning to seem more enticing to tourists. The concept of traveling in general is leaning more towards "getting away from it all" rather than visiting well known, crowded hot spots. According to The Venue Report, here are a few off the beaten path locations to consider for your next trip!

1. Borneo Instead Of Thailand

2. Valle de Guadalupe Instead Of Napa

3. Cappadocia Instead Of Istanbul

4. St. John Instead Of St. Barts

5. Islamorada Instead Of Tulum

trnd on the Scene // Del Mar Races // Opening Day

Del Mar kicked off their 2017 Racing Season in style yesterday. For anyone who has ever attended this ritzy daytime event, you already know what you wear is just as important as the bets you place.  If Opening Day had a fashion motto it would be, "See and be Seen". From the hats, to the shoes, to the dresses we were on the scene to take in all the best that Opening Day had to offer.

Wonderspaces // A Pop Up Arts Celebration

At TRND, we strive to constantly immerse ourselves in anything that is artistic and expressive to better understand the future of fashion. So when we heard that Wonderspaces, a pop up museum of extraordinary experiences, would be setting up in San Diego it was a no brainer to go check it out!

Inside, we found art enjoyed at the world's biggest festivals and fairs like SXSW, room sized interactive art installations, virtual reality, and more.

If the founders deem this trial run in San Diego a success, they will be headed off on a cross country tour, so stay tuned to see if Wonderspaces will be visiting your city next!

Until then, check out some of our pictures from our visit....

Sweet Spot is a shimmering color installation of 3700 thin multicolor nylon cords hanging ceiling to floor through handmade wood compartments.

ADA is an interactive art-making machine, a helium-filled, membrane-like globe that is spiked with charcoals and floats freely in room, drawing on the walls.

On a Human Scale began by filming everyday New Yorkers singing. Their individual notes are woven into a fully interactive video installation that the public is invited to play, using a piano.

In Sweeper’s Clock the hour and minute hands are formed by two men sweeping garbage, clockwise, filmed in real time.

Come together, by Michael Murphy, is what the artist calls a "perpetual shift". Stand in the right spot, and the pieces shift from an abstract collection of suspended cylinders to a fist.

Daydream is an audiovisual installation that generates space distortions and plays with the relationship between space and time, accelerations, contractions, shifts, and metamorphosis.

On Tilt is an airdancer party.  It was previously enjoyed at Nuit Blanche in Toronto, Canada.

trnd Events // New Belgium Tour de Fat

The Tour de Fat graced San Diego with its presence this Saturday, making a stop at the Waterfront Park.

This tour benefitted the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and there was a bike parade to the event.

They told us to expect the unexpected, and they definitely delivered!

There were fortune tellers,

a costume contest,

a satellite stage with vaudeville acts,

a dance contest,

and fun to be had by all.

We loved the music (and fashion of course) by local band The Verigolds

and The Naked and Famous!
